STAR Spotlight

Updated: Jun 4

Meet Daianna, a remarkable 7th grader at St. Martin de Porres Marianist School, whose education has been nurtured by the Tomorrow's Hope Foundation since first grade. As an Honor Roll student, Daianna thrives under the guidance of dedicated teachers who she loves and who "always take the time to make sure students understand."

Her passion for Social Studies shines through her active involvement in school life, including serving as an altar server, engaging in the Honor Society, and participating in impactful service projects like Mission: Pack to Back Prayers, a day that calls on junior high school students to pack bags of toiletries and toys for children in need during Christmas. This initiative not only aids less fortunate children but also fosters empathy and unity within the school community--Daianna shared that "working on this service project with classmates has brought us closer together and given us a different perspective on the world around us."

In addition to her service endeavors, Daianna showcases her talents in extracurricular activities such as Mock Trial, Cheerleading, and the Junior High Chorus. She also contributes to the school's Morning Show, enriching the daily news broadcast with her skills behind the camera.

Daianna extends her heartfelt gratitude to Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation donors, whose generosity has empowered her academic and spiritual growth. With aspirations of continuing her education in a Catholic high school, Daianna is a shining example of the transformative impact of Catholic education on young lives. "Thank you for supporting my family and all families that want to be educated in Catholic schools on Long Island. Your generosity has allowed me to grow and be able to expand my opportunities in and out of the classroom!"

Why support a STAR Student?

John H. Treiber, Platinum + Level STAR donor, emphasizes the need for alternative education options amid perceived failures of public schooling in New York and across the nation. "Catholic school meets this challenge and equally provides an environment that stresses the importance of spirituality, inclusiveness, and compassion for others. The cards I get from my STAR students are among the most cherished things I look forward to receiving. I am very proud to support the STAR Program."

In 2023, 42% of all awarded students qualified for the Student Tuition Assistance (STAR) Program -- a scholarship of $3,000 or more. A STAR donor gets to see firsthand how their generous contribution aids in allowing their STAR student to thrive in a Catholic elementary school.
