Business and Professional Activities
Mr. Geoghan was a director, lawyer and senior corporate executive with Union Carbide Corporation until December 1998:
1990 - 1998: Member of the Corporation's Board of Directors
1987 - 1998: Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
1985 - 1987: Deputy General Counsel
1963 - 1985: Various positions within Union Carbide's Law
Department, including Chief International
Counsel and Assistant General Counsel.
As Chief Legal Officer of the Corporation, Mr. Geoghan's responsibilities encompassed all legal matters involving the Corporation, as well as Federal and State Government Relations. Union Carbide engaged in massive corporate restructuring during the 1985-1996 period, selling many of its businesses and spinning off the industrial gas business now known as Praxair. During that period, the Corporation went from 110,000 employees to approximately 12,000.
As a member of senior corporate management and one of two (at times, three) employee Directors of the Corporation, Mr. Geoghan played a significant role in all major issues affecting the Corporation. He also served as a Director of several joint venture and affiliated companies of Union Carbide. He retired in December 1998 to devote time to not-for-profit and church related organizations, primarily in the areas of financial planning, strategic planning and development.
Church and other not-for-profit activities
The Geoghan family resided in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Bayside, NY from 1965 to 1981 and in Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Wilton, CT. from 1981 through 1999. In both parishes, Mr. Geoghan was an Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He also served on the Parish Council of each Parish, including a term as President of each Council. Since 2000 the Geoghan family has resided in St. Rosalie Parish in Hampton Bays where Mr. Geoghan is an Eucharistic Minister.
Mr. Geoghan has been active in the Diocese of Brooklyn from 1975 to the present. He has chaired or participated on various commissions and task forces on Catholic elementary school education and Diocesan financial and administrative issues. He has been a member of the Diocesan Finance Council since its inception.
Mr. Geoghan also served during 2004 on a Study Committee for Catholic Elementary Schools in the Diocese of Rockville Centre and in January 2005, was appointed Chair of the newly formed Education Commission of the Diocese.
Mr. Geoghan became a Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great in 2002. He is currently a Director of Alive in Hope Foundation of the Diocese of Brooklyn, the Community Development Corporation of Long Island, Inc., Fund for Modern Courts, International Surgical Mission Support Inc. and the Advisory Board of Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A.

Personal - Mr. Geoghan has been married to Kathleen Normile Geoghan since 1961. They have five children and nine grandchildren. Leisure time activities include golf and salt water fishing.
